joshua silverland's life had hardly began when he was brought into the world, kicking and screaming and naive of anything terrifying in the world. as a young boy, he had interests in a lot of things, such as sports and photography, and he was always an only child so both of his parents gave him constant attention. joshua's father took him to sporting events, to see baseball games and got him football lessons while his mother fueled the drive for photography and art. life would never get better than this, joshua thought. he had his family, and that was all he needed. as joshua grew, he made friends and was well liked and quickly accepted into the popular crowd. unfortunately, the first tragedy in joshua's life struck him at the young age of fifteen. his parents had been out of town to visit old friends. having no interest in the matter, josh had stayed home and besides, the big game had been that night. there had been a nasty rain storm that night, and the roads had been too nasty. despite winning the game, despite beating their school rivals, all the joy and the cheer seemed obsolete when joshua received a call from the hospital, saying that his mother had died in a vehicle accident. they had apparently hit a bad spot of black ice, spun out of control and wrecked in a shallow creek just off the road. joshua's father had survived, but his mother had unfortunately died on impact. immediately, joshua had fled the school and the field, the victory completely forgotten.
what had once been a happy life, a warm life filled with light, was now over cast and filled with morose. her funeral had been too much to bear, and the months following that had been bleak, and grey. joshua hadn't dropped out of sports nor had he given up his photography but rather, he had chosen to pursue that more fervently. somewhere deep inside, he felt as if this were for her, and finally realized what it was with his life he wanted to do. from then on, life had been normal, normal but hard. getting over the death of a parent that was so dearly loved was no easy task for anybody but joshua had managed to do it. well, enough so that he could manage life from one day at a time. senior year was coming up soon, and joshua was finally eighteen. ahead of him was college, a chance to get out of this lone star town and make a name for himself. thats when the second tragedy hit him. this time his father was left out of it. joshua had been camping with two of his best friends in the woods, when they heard a loud, unnerving growl within the black abyss that lurked between the trees. curious, the three of them left the safety of their tent to see what it was they had heard. the rest of that night had been a blur. the next day josh awoke lying on the cold earth, amidst dirt and grass and bright morning sun kissing his face. and, of course, the reminder of what nightmares had occurred the night before. he had discovered that his two best friends had been mutilated, and his own body badly wounded. for a few weeks after that, josh had been hospitalized for therapy and to heal the wounds which he had suffered. after josh was released from the hospital, life went on yet again, as normally as it ever could. until the full moon, in which he had undergone a horrible transformation that would forever change his life.
josh can be a pretty cool guy. he's laid back, but this comes from his dependancy on smoking pot to calm himself down. due to his werewolf problem, josh gets more irritable when closer to the full moon, not to mention too exhausted. ever since the incident, as he likes to refer to it, josh has grown more withdrawn. he'd quit the foot ball team, as well as all his other sports activities and inevitably made himself a loner so to distance everyone from getting hurt. or discovering what he was, for frankly josh doesn't know which one sounds worse. if he lets anybody get close enough to him, however, josh can be very sweet and a very loyal friend. even though josh was the star quarterback, he still holds a deep love of photography because of his mother, and wishes to some day be a photographer for national geographic. unfortunately, it seems fate had different plans for him.
